Herdade do Rocim

It is, above all, the result of a desire and a dream. “God wills,
Man dreams, the Work is born” is Fernando Pessoa’s poetic expression that can best
help us understand the circumstances in which the idea arose and the work was built.

This is the path we want to follow. In the fragility of our human condition,
we dare to think that, in fact, to arrive at the reality that is Herdade do
Rocim today, some God inspired us and some dream moved us.

It is an estate located between Vidigueira and Cuba, in the Baixo Alentejo, with around 120
hectares, including 70 vineyards and 10 olive trees.

The Vidigueira fault, a natural feature that marks the division between Alto and Baixo Alentejo, defines the very essence of Vidigueira, the southernmost wine sub-region of Alentejo. The east-west oriented escarpments, stretching about 50 kilometers, influence Vidigueira’s climate, making it, despite its southern location, one of the most temperate sub-regions in Alentejo.

At Herdade do Rocim we have respected the natural vocation of the region’s terroir from the outset,
producing fresh, elegant and mineral wines.

Oenology

Winemaking at Herdade do Rocim is inspired by the philosophy of minimal intervention.

All processes involved in transforming grapes into wine are aimed at showing the utmost respect for our terroir. In our wines, whether single varietal or field blends, we use only wild yeasts. With minimal intervention and always adhering to the principles of sustainability, our winemaking follows the philosophy of minimal intervention, aiming primarily to reflect our terroir in every bottle produced.

Know How
Fresh, elegant wines

Despite the careful selection in our vineyards, all the bunches are once again inspected at the entrance to the winery where the hand and care of man are fundamental to the creation of wines that we consider exceptional.

We combine all the know-how of modern oenology with ancestral forms of winemaking such as the Alentejo carvings and foot treading in stone presses. All fermentations are monitored daily by our winemakers and decisions are made individually for each wine, which is treated, thought through and created in a unique way.

We use larger barrels, terracotta and cement amphoras to age our wines. The careful use of new wood is also aimed at preserving the fruit and the terroir. At Herdade do Rocim we have respected the natural vocation of the region’s terroir from the outset, producing fresh, elegant and mineral wines.

At Herdade do Rocim, the expression of our terroir has been respected from the beginning.

The ROCIM project’s mission is to produce wines in a sustainable way, respecting the social, cultural and natural matrix of the region.
